In Brief

One of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers, wanted to modernize its BI by consolidating disparate legacy BI platforms and migrate its analytical reporting to Tableau. The manufacturer had to migrate ~700 reports from 5 different BI platforms, including Oracle BIEE, Hyperion, Polaris BI, Power BI, and QlikView. USEReady helped the Fortune 500 firm achieve this goal by using its MigratorIQ accelerator and Pixel Perfect for Tableau, resulting in faster migration, reduced target reports count, and improved operational control and strategic foresight for the business.

Customer

The customer is one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers focused on intelligent power and sensing technologies for automotive, industrial, and telecom sectors. Its products enable applications such as electric vehicles, smart homes, robotics, and 5G networks.

With 22 manufacturing sites, thousands of supply chain partners supplying over 80 thousand parts, and 33 thousand employees, the manufacturer runs a truly global operation.

Business Challenges

The manufacturer’s business-critical functions like manufacturing, supply chain, sales and marketing used 5 different BI platforms for decision support. Majority of its reports were on a sunsetting Hyperion platform. The customer was looking to modernize its BI by consolidating analytical reporting on Tableau Cloud, while retiring its legacy BI platforms which required migration of ~700 reports. Its source BI platforms included Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, Hyperion, Polaris BI, Power BI, and QlikView. The customer wanted to do away with challenges like data silos, duplication of efforts, integration complexities, subpar reporting, and increased costs and sought a consolidated view of its operations.

USEReady Solution

USEReady used its MigratorIQ accelerator for planning automation, which helped in:
Number One
Creating a comprehensive reports/objects inventory
Number Two
De-duplicating source reports to lower target count
Number Three
Reducing client SME dependency/effort

Additionally, USEReady used Pixel Perfect for Tableau solution for creating formatted, print-ready reports in PDF, CSV and XLS formats, and automated their distribution.

Key Outcomes

With MigratorIQ and Pixel Perfect,
the manufacturer achieved the following outcomes:
30% lesser time-to-migrate
30% lesser time-to-migrate
25% smaller target reports count
25% smaller target reports count
50% faster report processing time post migration, for multi-section Hyperion reports
50% faster report processing time post migration, for multi-section Hyperion reports
95% report format replication, for ease of user adoption
95% report format replication, for ease of user adoption
Enhanced user satisfaction and operational visibility

Lessons Learnt

The case study demonstrates MigratorIQ’s ability to help users migrate from legacy BI platforms to Tableau with minimal disruption and maximum benefits. One of the main lessons learnt from this project is that planning automation can significantly reduce the effort and complexity of migration projects.

The project also underscores the importance of customised migration paths which can ensure optimal performance and accuracy of the target reports. Finally, the case study showcases how USEReady’s solutions can help customers leverage the power of Tableau Cloud to gain insights and make data-driven decisions.

Conclusion

For organizations struggling with outdated reporting systems, this implementation proves that modernization doesn’t mean sacrificing report quality or user experience. The results i.e. 30% faster migration, 25% fewer reports, and 50% performance improvements, demonstrate that well-executed BI consolidation delivers both immediate efficiency gains and long-term strategic benefits. Perhaps most importantly, by establishing a modern, consolidated analytics foundation, the company has positioned itself to more easily adopt AI-driven analytics capabilities – a critical advantage as organizations increasingly need clean, accessible data to power machine learning and predictive initiatives. Companies facing similar challenges with data silos, duplicate reporting, and aging platforms can use this case as a roadmap for how specialized migration tools can minimize business disruption while maximizing return on analytics investments.
